Aluminum powder explosion limit
Aluminum powder explosion is a dust explosion. The upper explosion limit% (V/V): No data. The lower explosion limit% (V/V): 37~50mg/m3.
Large amounts of dust can ignite spontaneously when exposed to moisture and water vapor. Mixed with oxidants can form explosive mixtures. Violent chemical reactions can occur in contact with fluorine, chlorine, etc. Contact with acids or strong bases can also produce hydrogen, causing combustion and explosion. Powder and air can form an explosive mixture. When it reaches a certain concentration, it will explode when it encounters sparks.
Aluminum powder is also called silver powder, also known as aluminum silver powder. It is a silver-white powder with light texture, high buoyancy, strong hiding power, high stability, good reflection and heat transfer performance. It can dissolve in acid and alkali, replace hydrogen at the same time, and is insoluble in water. It will chemically react when exposed to a small amount of water or moisture, releasing hydrogen and heat. If the heat does not dissipate, it will easily cause combustion and explosion.
The fire hazard of aluminum powder is that its dust will fly and mix with the air. If it encounters sparks, it will explode and burn. The minimum ignition energy of aluminum powder is 50 millijoules, and the minimum explosive limit concentration is 25 g/m3. It can also form explosive mixtures when mixed with other oxidants. If it comes into contact with acids and alkalis, hydrogen will be produced, and hydrogen will easily burn and explode in the air.
As aluminum powder is easy to burn and explode, it should be stored in a dry and ventilated warehouse, away from fire and heat sources. At the same time, it should be stored separately from acids, alkalis and oxidants, and mixed storage and transportation should not be avoided. When handling, load and unload with care to prevent damage to the package. Be extremely careful during use, production, storage, storage and transportation.
Aluminum powder is not suitable for transportation in rainy days. Once aluminum powder is found to ignite and explode, it should be quickly extinguished with dry lime powder. Never use water, carbon dioxide, carbon tetrachloride fire extinguishers, or pressurized dry powder extinguishers. Because water and high-temperature aluminum powder will replace hydrogen, the dry powder with spray pressure will lift up the aluminum powder and mix with air, thereby intensifying the combustion.
